In English: What is natural and normal?
Gender studies interrogates the production of “natural” and “normal.” Elin Lundsten, senior lecturer in gender studies, gives the example of assisted reproduction that was previously accessible only for heterosexual couples as they were seen as the ones who could conceive children “naturally.” Thanks to political debates, activism and the work by professionals that led to new legislation, assisted reproduction is now accessible to persons regardless of gender identity and sexual orientation.
